Fetishism

The word FETISH nowadays became a buzzword. It´s used many times without the knowledge of the background. Fetish-Party, Fetish-Model,
Fetish-Art...
Fetish has been commercialized. Fetish even became a trend. But as always there are 2 sides of a coin. The positive aspect is that the society became more open minded for this topic. Open minded people learned that fetishism is nothing criminal. Celebrities like Madonna are wearing rubber outfits on stage or in their music videos. But this way of presentation has nothing to do with native fetishism.
Fetishism is still part of the "ICD".
ICD = The International Classification of Diseases

The "official" description of FETISHISM according to ICD F65.0 is:

Sexual fetishism or erotic fetishism is a sexual focus on a nonliving object or non-genital body part.
The object of interest is called the fetish; the person who has a fetish for that object is a fetishist.
A sexual fetish may be regarded as a non-pathological aid to sexual excitement, or as a mental disorder
if it causes significant psycho-social distress for the person or has detrimental effects on important areas of their life.
Sexual arousal from a particular body part can be further classified as partialism.
 
DISEASES?? Fetishism is still called a DISEASE? Why?

Of course it is discussible if the classification as a DISEASE is valid for all fetishists but there is a big number of unreported cases of fetishists who are suffering from their fetish because of social constraints like family, employment, society...

Maybe this "official" definition of fetish doesn´t reflect the different levels of fetishism very detailed but at least it differentiates into
NON-PATHOLOGICAL and PATHOLOGICAL (mental disorder).

The NON-pathological fetishists are just FOCUSED on a nonliving object or non-genital body part. NON-pathological fetishists can choose how far they want to go. How deep they want to include e.g. rubber into their life. It´s a "hobby". They can stop this focus if their interest is changed to something different e.g. different material like leather, different social activities like sports or perhaps stop it because a new partner doesn´t
like it.
 

The PATHOLOGICAL fetishist has no choice. Many PATHOLOGICAL fetishists are seriously suffering from their fetishism because they are addicted. PATHOLOGICAL Fetishism is a sexual "constrain", a mental disorder. PATHOLOGICAL fetishists are like junkies. We can´t choose if we want to have this material addiction or not. This rubber addiction is compulsorily connected with our sexual drive. That´s why for cases where the pathological fetish cause a psychological strain the classification as a disease or mental disorder is absolutely correct. 
 

I think it is important to understand that there are different levels of fetishism and that a lot of people are still suffering from this psychological addiction. And most likely the pathological fetishists who are suffering from their addiction are not really happy about this commercialized use of the word "Fetish" because it simply creates the impression that fetishism is a trend everybody can jump on if he likes.

We should keep in mind that we, the pathological fetishists, who are able to transform the fetish into a lifestyle, are a privileged small number of lucky people. The bigger number of pathological fetishists  live out their fetish behind closed doors many times in social isolation.
Perhaps my webpage can be an inspiration for them to burst their bonds.
